Last day on the island
As promised, the students that had been working at the hotel, had the chance to explore a bit more. They headed to the west side before the sun came up. Three buses later they ended up in Tazacorte. Before they boarded the ship, they went to the beach. Then they got on the boat and left the port. They drove for about an hour to the north. Before getting to the view point to see the whales and dolphins (they didn't see them), the boat driver took them to the biggest seaside cave on the island.
After that they looked at the houses where the Aboriginal people lived when they first inhabited La Palma. The tour guide explained to them that the beach where they took a swim, loses its sand in the winter by the waves (the sea scoops the sand) and is brought back in the summer. From the sea-shore it is visible how much the island grew in the past years by lines and marks carved in the wall by the water. The sea is calmer and quieter during the winter than in summer.
When going back the winds shifted and waves started coming from the south and getting bigger. In the beginning they got a bit wet and before getting back to the port they were SOAKED.
Meanwhile our professors were catching the last sunrays before returning back to the cold winter. They also tried PAELLA, which is originally a seafood based dish, but it can be changed to chicken or mixed.
While all of THAT was going on, us at the marina were talking about metal music with one of our mentors, which has the same favorite band as our student BURZUM. And also about how spanish people are usually completely spanish (with a bit of italian mixed somewhere in there). We helped Luis (the mentor) sort bus signs by the tour and added numbers. We also went out for a coffee break with our mentors, it was 26.9 degrees and we were ˝dying˝.
We're going to end our evening with making pancakes and taking a walk on the beach.
